What is being said about us, publications on the wines
The quality rating of Brunello di Montalcino 2003 by the consortium of Vino Brunello di Montalcino is 4 stars: "very good vintage". The maximum would have been 5 stars (for 2004, 2006 and 2007), the year 2002 did earn only two.
For Aristide the vintage 2003 of Brunello di Montalcino has been a disappointment. No doubt about that.
During the press-tasting at the event "Benvenuto Brunello 2003" last weekend, I had the opportunity to taste about forty wines in blind tasting, selected mainly from “traditional style” Brunello, that is refined in big barrels, and consistent with the traditional stile of the area of Montalcino.
As the great English critique Jancis Robinson, anticipating our own commentators has said: Dear friends, lovers of Brunello di Montalcino, stock up on the vintage 2001 and those preceding it, because for at least two years (2002 and 2003) it’ll be better you buy something else instead. Oh my, and how right la Robinson is. I’ve never had a more monotonous tasting in Tuscany, with so few outstanding wines. You be the judge, but one really has to be very selective when buying anything from this vintage.
Here the five wines I find on top of the list of my personal rating on my hand-held:
- Claudia Ferrero, Loc. Pascena - S.Angelo in Colle (SI) Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2003
- Lombardi, Loc. Canalicchio di Sotto - Montalcino (SI)
